I am going to be sad seeing Finley not in a Rockies uniform

DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies announced this morning that the club has designated outfielder Steve Finley for assignment. To take his place on the roster, the club has selected the contract of outfielder Sean Barker from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Barker (#14) will be looking to make his major league debut in tonight's series opener against Houston at Coors Field.
Finley, 42, batted .181 (17-for-94) with one home run and two RBI in 43 games for Colorado this season. His .181 average ranks as third-lowest in the major leagues among players with at least 90 at-bats this season. The veteran is the oldest player in Rockies history, as he was 42 years and 83 days old for his last appearance in purple pinstripes on Sunday vs. Cincinnati. The Rockies have 10 days to trade, release or outright Finley to the minor leagues.

In his 19th major league season, Finley made the Rockies' Opening Day roster as a non-roster invitee this spring. He is a two-time All-Star (1997 and 2000) and five-time Gold Glove Award winner (1995-96, 1999-2000, 2004). He has 304 career home runs and 320 career stolen bases, as he is one of just six players in major league history to surpass 300 home runs and 300 steals in his career. Finley was the first player to appear for each of the five current National League West teams, and he has been a part of seven playoff teams, including the 1998 N.L.-champion San Diego Padres and the 2001 World Champion Arizona Diamondbacks.

Barker, who turned 27 on May 26, is batting .333 (54-for-162) with five home runs, 17 doubles, two triples, and 30 RBI in 45 games for Colorado Springs. He has hit safely in eight straight at Triple-A and currently ranks seventh in the Pacific Coast League in batting average. Barker was hitting over .400 as recently as May 9 and played primarily in left field for the Sky Sox. The Rockies' sixth round selection in the 2002 June draft, Barker is in his sixth professional season after finishing his collegiate career at Louisiana State University.

With these moves, the Rockies still have 39 players in the club's 40-man roster.

Already crushed. Heard it watching the Dbacks game. Everything is going bad for me. Oh well I can sing it off at the concert this weekend and clear my head in Flagstaff the next week.

I wish he would come back to Arizona. We should bring him back and get rid of Carlos Quentin.

I wish we didn't have to get rid of anyone. Just let us have as many guys as we want! Yeah!

Getting rid of Callaspo wouldn't bother me. I'd trade him for Steve.
